Tunnel Coverage Systems
Andrew leads the industry with the design and supply of cost effective
tunnel solutions worldwide and offers several systems for inside tunnel
coverage that include the ION Fiber Distributed Antenna System, Node
repeaters, and ACB cable boosters.
The tunnel coverage solutions that Andrew supply meet the needs of both
the general public, who expect their mobile phones to work at all times, and
the emergency services who need reliable communications and personal safety.
Since road tunnels vary widely in their construction and layout, it is
necessary to have a flexible approach to the design of systems to provide
communications within them. Andrew designs systems using standard equipment,
uniquely configured to provide the required quality of coverage for the
specific tunnel.
Andrew products support all technologies, including but not limited to analog, Tetra, Tetrapol,
TDMA, iDEN, IS-95, CDMA2000, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, and UMTS. All can be integrated
into the Andrew A.I.M.O.S. Network Management Solution.
Tunnel Coverage Application Examples
SMALL TUNNELS: Coverage system that uses Node RF enhancers A network of radiating cable connected RF repeater (Node) uniformly along
the tunnel. This cost-effective system maximizes channel efficiency and signal
homogeneity inside small tunnel and provides optimal voice quality and high
speed data transmission.

MEDIUM SIZED TUNNELS: Coverage system that uses Node RF enhancers and ACB
cable boosters: For unlimited mobile communication in tunnels, this solution optimizes coverage
cost effectively by using both remote bases station capacity and serial signal
reconditioning in the tunnel.

LONG TUNNELS I: Coverage system that uses ION remote heads and Node RF
enhancers A network of fiber-connected ION remote heads will distribute radio signals
from a pickup repeater (Node) uniformly along the tunnel. This system maximizes
channel efficiency and signal homogeneity inside long tunnel and provides optimal
voice quality and high speed data transmission.

LONG TUNNELS II: Coverage system that uses an ION FDAS in difficult areas A network of fiber connected ION devices distributes radio signals uniformly
along a railway line even as the train passes through difficult coverage areas,
such as tunnels and hills. The system maximizes channel efficiency and signal
homogeneity along the route and provides optimal voice quality and high speed
data transmission.
