Digital Interconnect and Cross-Connect Interface (DIXI-1)
CommScope’s Digital Interconnect and Cross-Connect Interface-1 (DIXI-1) is a manual digital interconnect and cross-connect interface frame system for signals operating over twisted-pair cables, including DS1 (1.544 Mb/s), DS1C (3.152 Mb/s), and E-1 (2.048 Mb/s). The DIXI-1 can also be used in conjunction with Digital Distribution Interface (DDI) panels for applications involving 75-ohm coaxial cables.
Each DIXI-1 bay can be equipped with up to 12 DIXI-1 panels. When configured in a cross-connect arrangement, each DIXI-1 bay provides a total of 1,008 circuits per bay. If arranged as an interconnect, a fully equipped DIXI-1 bay provides 2,016 points of termination.
The design of the DIXI-1 System, as well as its development and manufacturing, has been certified to ISO 9000 and 9001 specifications. The DIXI-1 System is supported by a complete line of framework, hardware, cords, plugs, and other accessories.

Reduce Operating Expenses
CommScope’s DIXI-1 System is compatible with existing DSX-1 panels, and the 84 terminations per panel match OC3 multiplexers and most DCS machines. Both the DIXI-1 System interconnect panel and the DIXI-1 System cross-connect panel provide a patching capability for DCS bypass (network element to network element).
High Density The DIXI-1 System interconnect panel allows 168 terminations per panel (84 LEC terminations and 84 CLEC terminations).
Small Size
DIXI-1 System interconnect panel uses 6 inches (150 mm) of vertical bay space and the cross-connect panel uses 5 inches (125 mm) of vertical bay space.

1. DIXI-1 System Interconnect Panels offer all of the features of a digital system access bay-1 (DSAB-1), plus patching jacks for improved testing, cutover, and service restoration. The panel includes a transition trough which routes the equipment cabling down the rear of the network bay frame and to the front of the panel. CommScope’s DIXI-1 System Interconnect Panel houses 21 four-circuit blocks for a total of 84 circuits, and is an excellent choice for co-location applications.

Mounts on the front face (wide flange) of a standard 23-inch (584.2-mm) unequal flange type network bay frame.
The DIXI-1 System panel stands off the front of the frame upright approximately 2 inches due to its width.
Up to twelve DIXI-1 System interconnect panel assemblies and all necessary frame hardware will mount in a 7-foot (2133.6-mm) network bay frame for a total of 2016 terminations (1008 DACS IV-2000 terminations and 1008 network element terminations) per bay.

2. DIXI-1 System Cross-connect Panels provide all the testing and patching features of a typical DSX-1 block or panel, at a lesser cost. The added functionality of the CommScope "Smart" patch and test cords eliminates the need for jumper tracing, and allows for almost all operations work to be performed from one end of the circuit. The panel houses twenty-one four-circuit blocks for a total of 84 terminations.

The panel has a 4-inch (101.6-mm) deep jumper trough for cross connects.
The recommended depth of the cross-connect bay is 18 inches (457.2 mm).
A 5-inch (125-mm) high cross-connect panel is also available with a 2.75-inch (69.9-mm) jumper trough (4.75-inch (120.65-mm) total depth) for OSP cabinet applications, or where a narrow jumper trough is required.
A special cross-connect panel intended for E-1 applications is available with an 80-circuit capacity. The panel has the same overall dimensions as the 84- circuit panel and is offered in two versions: a fully equipped panel with 20 DIXI-1 System connecting blocks and 20 ground plates, or an empty panel for "build-your-own" applications.

3. Wall Mount Panels are the ultimate choice for use in customer premises and small central offices where space is at a premium. IN and OUT jacks, instead of monitor jacks, appear on the front of the block along with wire wrap pins suitable for either equipment cabling or cross-connect jumpers. The rear of the block has wire wrap pins for equipment cabling. The IN and OUT jacks and wire wrap pins replace the need for monitor jacks, tracing lamps, and lamp wire wrap pins resulting in a less expensive and more compact design.

Block Assembly
The DIXI-1 System block (module) is a versatile and economical method to terminate, interconnect, and/or cross-connect your wideband services in your central office, controlled-environmental vaults (CEVs), cabinets, huts, and even on your customers’ premises. Using an organized waterfall cabling method for network elements and DCS, the DIXI-1 System interconnect panel allows as many as 2016 terminations per 7-foot bay, while the DIXI-1 System cross-connect panel allows up to 1008 terminations per bay. DIXI-1 System cross-connect panel provide a patching capability for DCS bypass (network element to network element). It is generally recommended that the blocks be ordered as part of the complete panel assemblies. Individual blocks should only be ordered to equip empty panels for customized configurations or as replacements and additions.

Patch Cords (Plugs)
CommScope’s patch cords cross connect, interconnect, or patch circuits on Bantam, 800/900, DSAB-1 or DIXI-1 Systems. The 800/900-type cords (plugs) have an edge board type printed wiring board to open the normally closed contacts in the IN and OUT jacks of the 800A-type connecting block or DIXI-1. The printed wiring board is plated with precious metal for long life, low contact resistance, and high reliability.
